An Empty Space

As we were looking for a home when we relocated, there were three things on my must have list: Fireplace, 2 separate living areas, and a finished basement.  Well, I got none of those, and realized the right house for us may not be what I envisioned.  I love our house and wouldn't trade it for another if I could.

As for the two living areas, I might can pull it off with a little creativity.  I just have a few things to work through first.

We enter the house in the back through a small entrance which also doubles as the laundry room.  From there it is a straight shot from one side of the house to the other.

View from back entrance.

And this is the empty space that I have to work with.
The living room is off to the left.

The dining room, kitchen, and this empty space are all open to one another, and the living room is closed off.  Before we moved in the owners of the home had a love seat in the bay window and a cabinet that hid a small TV.

It was located on this wall.

But I'm not sure how I feel about that, and then I've had this crazy thought.  What if I moved the dining room over to this space?  That creates a whole lot of problems though and I'm not sure I can make it work.

In the empty space the lighting is not made for a dining room, and it is not centered.

The China Cabinet will not fit in this empty area.

Then the challenges over here include a light fixture that is meant for a dining room and no wall space to put furniture.

I could make the furniture placement work if I could find a new place for the china cabinet, but I'm not sure I could get past the lighting issue.

Maybe I will just place a couple of chairs in the bay window with a nice table in between and use it as a sitting/reading area.

Maybe something like this

With something similar to this in the middle

Designing a space that works for you and your family takes planning, and sometimes our first plans don't work out.  Are you like me and don't always get it right the first time?  Or do you look at a space and know instantly how it needs to be?  For me trial and error is how I figure it all out.  I just hope I can figure it out before I have that china cabinet moved and realize it should have stayed there.

Please feel free to offer any ideas you may have, I would love to hear your thoughts.
